## How do I create a subscription plan?

To create a plan, go to **Subscriptions > Plans**, then click the create button.

The form has three tabs: **Display**, **Settings** and **Price**.

Enter a plan name and the descriptive text for your plan that will appear on your plan card on the Subscribe page of your website. Use the **Advanced Mode** field if you want to customize the formatting of this descriptive text.

Import a **plan image** (recommended format **217px wide x 86px tall**).

> Note
>
> In most cases, you don’t need to create plan groups (**Subscriptions > Advanced > Plan Groups**, then the **Plan Group** field of the plan). They allow you to offer price ranges within your plans, for example, if you want to offer a discovery group with a 1-month/3-month/6-month plan and a prestige group with a 1-month/3-month/6-month plan. See [Plan groups and recommended plan](https://www.ciklik.academy/en/abonnements/groupes-de-formules-et-formule-recommandee/).

In the **Price** tab, the **Amount** field takes the price of your plan excluding VAT and the **Tax** field its VAT rate (or no VAT).

In the **Settings** tab, the **Interval** (month, week or day) and **Cycle Count** fields set the length of the cycle. In the **Shipment Count** field, enter the number of boxes to ship over this cycle. For a one-month cycle where I plan one shipment, I enter 1 (monthly subscription). For a two-month cycle where I plan one shipment, I enter 1 (bi-monthly subscription).

Check the **Active** box for this plan to be offered on your website.

The **Pre-Checkout Page** box shows a summary page after the customization step. It is only useful for a customizable plan; its content is entered in the **Summary Page Content** field.

> Note
>
> If you later decide you no longer want to offer this plan, simply uncheck the active box. However, people subscribed to this plan will remain subscribed.

It is important to correctly configure the **billing/invoicing period** with the **Start Billing Day** (between 1 and 15) and **Close Billing Day** (between 10 and 31) fields. In most cases, you will set a billing start date of the 1st and a billing end date of the 10th.

Between the 1st and 10th of each month, payment attempts will be made (if the payment on the 1st is declined). There can be up to 4 payment attempts before the order is closed due to payment failure.

This billing period also determines which box you will need to send to your subscriber depending on when in the month they place their order.

Then check the **Fixed Periods** box for these dates to be taken into account. In the case of weekly plans, for example, where a person would be charged every week, this box should not be checked.

In the subscription box business, you want automatic renewal. So, check the **Mass Shipping** box.

The **Auto-Stop** box only applies to very specific cases where the subscriber for a very specific reason would need to regularly change plans. This box should not be checked in the vast majority of cases.

The **Commitment** and **Commitment Cycle** fields are used in very few cases for specific business models. This is not a best practice in subscription box management because in this given case, shipping slips are automatically scheduled without the transaction status in the commitment cycle being validated.

The **Next Plan** field allows a switch to another plan at the end of the commitment period or cycle of a prepaid plan. In the case of a plan without commitment, this switch occurs 6 days before the expiration date of the initial payment. The switch date is defined when the subscription is created.

> Caution
>
> - The interval, cycle count, shipment count, start and close billing days, the **Auto-Stop**, **Mass Shipping**, **Commitment** and **Fixed Periods** boxes and the site can no longer be changed once the plan is created. Check them before saving.
> - Once your website is operational with the payment module activated, if you want to create new plans, make sure to keep the same billing period for your new plans.
> - If you create new bi-monthly or quarterly plans, you must notify us by email so that we can correctly configure the desired shipping months.

The display order of your plans on the Subscribe page follows an ascending price order. If needed, you can modify the order of plans by customizing the values in the **Position** field.

On your homepage, if you decide to automatically display your plans, the display order is based on the ascending number of shipments per plan.

## Monthly or bi-monthly frequency?

Should you opt for a monthly or bi-monthly (once every 2 months) frequency?

As a general rule, we advise against starting with bi-monthly plans because subscribers tend to forget their subscription and unsubscribe due to lack of perceived value. It all depends on your business, the nature of your products, and the habits and expectations of your subscribers.

> Note
>
> In the case of bi-monthly plans (one shipment every 2 months), you will need to tell us your planned shipping months. See [Configure your bi-monthly subscription plans](https://www.ciklik.academy/en/abonnements/parametrer-vos-formules-d-abonnement/).

## Revising the pricing of my plans: different scenarios

### Offering a permanent discount on my plan

Offering a discount for the next payment of a plan is a one-time action that cannot be automatically renewed.

The solution is as follows: You can temporarily activate a special plan with the desired amount (plan price - 5 euros), long enough for the person to order this plan. Then you deactivate the plan so it is no longer offered. However, the person will keep their plan rate, even if the plan is deactivated.

### Revising the pricing of my plans

If you want to revise the pricing of your plans, the process is as follows:

1. Set your plans to inactive so they are no longer offered on the website. Existing subscribers remain on these plans with their initial rates.

2. Create new plans with the new pricing that will be offered to new subscribers.

If you want existing subscribers to switch to the new plans, you need to inform them of the pricing change and invite them to resubscribe to the new plans.

If you deactivate a plan, your customers who subscribed to these plans will continue to be charged and shipping slips will continue to be generated.
