Adding images to a blog post: best practices

Adding images in a blog post: good practices

Why manage your images well?

Beyond the aesthetic aspect of your site, it is important to respect certain rules when adding an image to your site. The management of your images has a direct impact on the performance of your site, i.e. on the time your page takes to load. In other words, images impact the perception of speed that a user will have when arriving on your site.

The challenge is therefore to guarantee the best experience and a smooth and pleasant course on your site.

What are the best practices?

First of all, you can work on the visual and the formatting of your image. This step allows you to customize your visual from a raw photo or to create your icons and respect your graphic charter. Your images will be harmonious on your site and will contribute to define your visual identity.

Once your design is finalized, you can move on to the step that consists of resizing your images. Remember that your visual will be uploaded on the web, so you have to make sure that it respects certain proportions.

The last step will be to compress your image without loss, that is to say, while preserving its visual quality. The goal is always to ensure that your site's pages load quickly to offer the best possible experience to site visitors.

For an image imported on your site, make sure that it does not exceed 300 kb.

What tools should I use?

Don't panic, without having professional graphics tools, you can work on your visuals by yourself. We advise you to use Canva. It is an online design tool, accessible to all. The free version allows you to explore many features, get inspired by existing templates and shape your brand.

To resize your images, we suggest you use Photopea. By modifying the width of your images, the software will adjust the height itself in order to keep the proportions of the visual and not to stretch it. To have some guidelines in mind, the width of your photos should not exceed 500 px. Finally, we recommend that you export your photos in jpeg format with a quality of 60% and your illustrations in png format, or even transparent png, so as not to have a background on your illustration if desired.

The compression of your image can finally be done from Tinypng. This step is very simple and will guarantee you a real speed in loading your homepage.

Add an image from Ciklik

Your image has successfully passed the 3 previous steps and is now on your computer.

Go to the administration interface of your Ciklik account. Open the visual editor for the content of an article in which you want to add an image for example.

Position yourself in the block where you want to add an image and go get your image from the gallery icon.

By positioning your mouse on a photo already in your gallery and clicking on the small icon that appears, you can get the url link of your image in your clipboard and share it!

You have a media gallery dedicated to you. Warning: If you delete or rename the files in it, then the files can no longer be called up.
