# Gift card

> Box store

> This page applies to box stores hosted by Ciklik. Using the PrestaShop module? [See the PrestaShop documentation](https://www.ciklik.academy/en/prestashop/).

Key points

With Ciklik, a box store gift card is a product linked to a plan: the buyer pays for it once, without a subscription, and the recipient activates a code that creates a subscription to that plan, with an end date. The recipient never enters bank details and the activation code has no expiration date. The buyer chooses to send the card by email with a personal message or to download it. Active cards are offered on your site’s /offer/packages page, and activation takes place on /offer/activate-giftcard.

## Create a Gift Card

Creating a gift card involves creating a product.

1. Go to **Products > Products**, then click the create button.

2. Fill in:

   - the gift card name
   - a very simple **Rewritten URL**, used in the URL when clicking on the gift card (no spaces or special characters)
   - the short description field
   - an image (same format as for creating your plans)
   - the meta description fields can remain simple as this gift card product will not be indexed on your site
   - the price and whether you are subject to VAT
   - check the **Active** box for the gift card to be offered on your site
   - check the **Salable** box

3. Then check the **Gift Card** box and choose the plan in the **Plan** field that then appears.

You can link a gift card to an inactive plan. For example, if you want to offer a gift card for 3 boxes but do not offer a 3-month plan on your site, simply create the plan for 3 boxes and make it inactive, then link it to your gift card.

You can link a gift card purchase to the generation of a shipping slip in order to send a physical product in addition to the gift card to the buyer. In this case, check the **Force Shipping Slip Creation** box. This note will be scheduled for the day after the gift card purchase.

Active gift cards are accessible on the /offer/packages page. Each card also has its own address, shown in the **Gift Card URL** field of its record. If you want to customize the presentation page for your gift cards, you can create a [free content page](https://www.ciklik.academy/en/contenu-pages/creer-sa-page-d-accueil-et-des-pages-de-contenu-avec-l-editeur-visuel/).

## How Gift Cards Work

When a gift card is activated (with the activation code), it automatically generates a subscription linked to the plan that was associated with the gift card. This subscription has an end date.

The gift card corresponds to an activation code that the gift card recipient can use. Thus, at no point will the gift card recipient be asked for bank details. However, they can complete their profile.

An activation code has no expiration date.

Subsequently, once their card has expired, meaning when they have received the box(es) included in their gift card, they will receive an [automatic email](https://www.ciklik.academy/en/cartes-cadeaux/continuer-apres-le-cadeau/#the-regular-gift-end-email) inviting them to continue the experience by offering them a subscription.

> New feature
>
> If your site has enabled the “[Continue after the gift](https://www.ciklik.academy/en/cartes-cadeaux/continuer-apres-le-cadeau/)” feature, this follow-up is significantly enhanced: up to three personalized emails, with a link to a prefilled cart and a customizable welcome offer. Results (conversion rate, generated revenue) are visible in the **KPI > Revenue Recovery** dashboard.

The gift card buyer has purchased a “gift card product”. They will therefore not continue to be charged as in the case of purchasing a plan. No worries on that front.

At the time of gift card purchase, the person can choose to send it by email to the recipient with a personalized message or to download the gift card.

## Shipping Fee Settings

You can include **shipping fees** in the gift card price. When the person receives the gift card, they simply activate a code and do not enter bank details. They provide their address but do not choose their shipping method. You cannot know in advance where this person is located. Therefore, you will choose the most suitable **shipping method** to send them their box.

Alternatively, if you want the gift card buyer to choose the shipping method for the boxes and pay the corresponding shipping fees, you can create the associated carrier(s) and make them accessible only for gift cards.

## Gift Card Visual Customization

You can change the visual of your gift card in **Marketing > Conversion > Gift Cards**. The same setting appears on the site record (**Settings > Sites**, **Gift Card** section).

There you change the **Gift Card Background Image**, the **Text Color** and the **Title Color**.

Use an image 800 px wide and 833 px high: it is the format of the printable card, and the image is resized to this size on upload. The help text below the field says 800 px high and 533 px wide: this is not the format used.

Be careful not to include text on the right half of the image as this is where the gift card activation code is displayed.

The download link for the reference visual is in the help text of the image field.

## Buying a Gift Card on Your Site: Customer Journey

1. **From the Gift Tab**

   The page URL is: /offer

2. **Choose the Gift Card You Want to Give**

The URL of the page where all active gift cards are presented is: /offer/packages

3. **Place an Order as the Gift Card Buyer**

The buyer creates their customer account.

They choose whether the gift card is sent by email to the recipient or if they want to download it. In the latter case, they can download the card from their My Account section, under My Orders.

The buyer completes their order by entering their address (for billing) before proceeding to payment.

## Activating a Gift Card on Your Site

The page URL is: /offer/activate-giftcard

1. The recipient activates their code.

2. They create their account and answer [profile questions](https://www.ciklik.academy/en/abonnements/les-questions-de-profil/) to receive their personalized box.

3. They provide their delivery address.

At no point will the gift card recipient have to enter their bank details.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the gift card buyer charged again afterwards?

No. The buyer pays for a gift card product once: they are not charged again like a subscriber.

### Does the recipient have to provide a bank card?

No. They activate their code, create their account, answer the profile questions and enter their delivery address, without ever entering bank details.

### Does a gift card code expire?

No, an activation code has no expiration date. It can be activated only once: it then creates a subscription that ends once the planned boxes have been received.

### Can I offer 3 boxes without offering a 3-month plan on my site?

Yes. Create a plan for 3 boxes, leave it inactive, then link it to the gift card in the product's Plan field.

### Who chooses the shipping method for gifted boxes?

By default, you do, because the recipient does not choose a shipping method; include the shipping costs in the card price. You can also create carriers reserved for gift cards so that the buyer chooses and pays for shipping.
