Section titled “How do I create a subscription plan?”To create a plan, go to the Subscription section in the left column, click on Plans, then click Create.
Enter a plan name and the descriptive text for your plan that will appear on your plan card on the Subscribe page of your website. Choose advanced mode if you want to customize the formatting of this descriptive text.
Import a plan image (recommended format 217px wide x 86px tall).
In the Price field, enter the price excluding VAT for your plan and indicate whether you are subject to VAT.
In the Shipments field, enter the number of boxes to ship over the subscription cycle. For a one-month cycle where I plan one shipment, I enter 1 (monthly subscription). For a two-month cycle where I plan one shipment, I enter 1 (bi-monthly subscription).
Check the Active box for this plan to be offered on your website.
Check the pre-checkout page box.
It is important to correctly configure the billing/invoicing period. In most cases, you will set a billing start date of the 1st and a billing end date of the 10th.
Between the 1st and 10th of each month, payment attempts will be made (if the payment on the 1st is declined). There can be up to 4 payment attempts before the order is closed due to payment failure.
This billing period also determines which box you will need to send to your subscriber depending on when in the month they place their order.
Then check the Fixed periods box for these dates to be taken into account. In the case of weekly plans, for example, where a person would be charged every week, this box should not be checked.
In the subscription box business, you want automatic renewal. So, check the Mass shipments box.
The Stops automatically box only applies to very specific cases where the subscriber for a very specific reason would need to regularly change plans. This box should not be checked in the vast majority of cases.
The Commitment and Commitment cycle fields are used in very few cases for specific business models. This is not a best practice in subscription box management because in this given case, delivery slips are automatically scheduled without the transaction status in the commitment cycle being validated.
The Next plan field allows a switch to another plan at the end of the commitment period or cycle of a prepaid plan. In the case of a plan without commitment, this switch occurs 6 days before the expiration date of the initial payment. The switch date is defined when the subscription is created.
Monthly or bi-monthly frequency?
Section titled “Monthly or bi-monthly frequency?”Should you opt for a monthly or bi-monthly (once every 2 months) frequency?
As a general rule, we advise against starting with bi-monthly plans because subscribers tend to forget their subscription and unsubscribe due to lack of perceived value. It all depends on your business, the nature of your products, and the habits and expectations of your subscribers.
Revising the pricing of my plans: different scenarios
Section titled “Revising the pricing of my plans: different scenarios”Offering a permanent discount on my plan
Section titled “Offering a permanent discount on my plan”Offering a discount for the next payment of a plan is a one-time action that cannot be automatically renewed.
The solution is as follows: You can temporarily activate a special plan with the desired amount (plan price - 5 euros), long enough for the person to order this plan. Then you deactivate the plan so it is no longer offered. However, the person will keep their plan rate, even if the plan is deactivated.
Revising the pricing of my plans
Section titled “Revising the pricing of my plans”If you want to revise the pricing of your plans, the process is as follows:
- Set your plans to inactive so they are no longer offered on the website. Existing subscribers remain on these plans with their initial rates.
- Create new plans with the new pricing that will be offered to new subscribers.
If you want existing subscribers to switch to the new plans, you need to inform them of the pricing change and invite them to resubscribe to the new plans.
If you deactivate a plan, your customers who subscribed to these plans will continue to be charged and delivery slips will continue to be generated.
