Subscribers' payment methods

Key points

With Ciklik, your subscribers pay by card through Stripe (a Stripe account managed by Ciklik or your own Stripe account) or through PayPlug, or with PayPal; PayPlug and PayPal are enabled on request to Ciklik support. Recurring SEPA direct debit through GoCardless is reserved for box stores and is enabled on request to Ciklik support. The PrestaShop module does not offer SEPA direct debit: on a PrestaShop store, the subscriber pays by card (Stripe or PayPlug) or with PayPal. The payment method the subscriber chooses is saved and then used for the automatic charge of each billing date.

Box stores can offer all four payment methods below; PrestaShop stores can offer the first three, without SEPA direct debit.

Your customer picks one of your site’s active methods when paying. The saved method is then used for their subscription’s automatic charges.

On a PrestaShop store, the Ciklik module adds one payment option per active method (Stripe card, PayPlug card, PayPal) to your store’s checkout, for carts that contain a subscription.

By default, card payments go through a Stripe account managed by Ciklik. You can instead link your company’s Stripe account.

  1. Go to Settings > Sites and open your site’s details.

  2. Run the Link My Stripe Account action, then click Continue to Stripe.

  3. Sign in with your shop’s Stripe account and authorize Ciklik.

  4. Back on Ciklik, a page sums up what is active and what is left to do.

What changes:

  • Stripe processes card payments from new subscribers and new orders.
  • Card payment through PayPlug, if it was active, is disabled: it is no longer offered to your customers. PayPal and GoCardless direct debit remain offered.
  • Your current subscribers keep being charged as they are today. If the charge of a subscriber whose card is saved through PayPlug fails, they receive the failed payment email with a link to pay for their order: the card they then enter is saved on Stripe for the following charges.
  • On a PrestaShop store, the Ciklik module offers card payment through Stripe, with no setting to change.

What may be left to do, according to the return page:

  • finish activating the account in your Stripe dashboard, if Stripe does not accept payments yet;
  • complete your bank details in your Stripe dashboard, if payouts are not enabled yet;
  • enable the failed payment email template in Content > Email Templates, if it is disabled: it is the one that sends your subscribers the link to pay for their order.

With your own Stripe account, payouts to your bank follow the schedule set in your Stripe dashboard, and disputes are handled there too.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ciklik offer SEPA direct debit for subscriptions?

Yes for box stores: recurring SEPA direct debit goes through GoCardless and is enabled on request to Ciklik support. No for PrestaShop stores: the Ciklik module does not offer SEPA direct debit.

Which payment methods does the PrestaShop module offer my subscribers?

Card through Stripe, card through PayPlug and PayPal, depending on the methods active on your Ciklik site. The module adds one option per active method to your checkout, for carts that contain a subscription.

Can I collect payments on my own Stripe account?

Yes. In Settings > Sites, open your site's details and run the Link My Stripe Account action. The link is refused if customers of your site have already saved their card through another Stripe account.

What happens to PayPlug payments if I link my Stripe account?

Card payment through PayPlug is no longer offered to your customers. Current subscribers keep being charged as before; if a charge fails, the card they enter with the payment link is saved on Stripe.

Can a subscriber change their payment method?

Yes, from their account. Their pending subscription orders are then charged again right away.
